I am a Little Village native. Sophomore year in high school was when I decided I wanted to become a teacher. Saturdays at my parish I volunteered as a catechist in the English program for first year children. As a recipient of the Golden Apple Scholarship, I studied at the University of Illinois at the Urbana-Champaign campus where I received my Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish. There, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Mexico at the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara, where I was invited to tour with Estampas, the university dance group, to Russia and Spain.
Upon graduation, I worked for Chicago Public Schools as a substitute, where I worked two maternity leaves at the high school level. I continued working for CPS during my studies in the Master's program at Chicago State University, where I received my Master's of Arts in Teaching of Spanish. Since graduating, I have worked for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
In the evenings, and after school, I teach Mexican folklore in the community. I am the instructor and choreographer for the dance group Horizontes Mexicanos de Danza Folklórica, and am excited to continue the tradition here at Epiphany.
